Been trying for a while for this combo but could never get the egrets to stay ontop long enough to get the shot. Or should I say Spoonbill in the singular as there was only one but its a start. Now the waters going over the dam wall/rd Im sure there will be more. Funny thing is Ive never seen a spoonbill catch a fish at Fogg Dam or anywhere else for that matter.....Seen many hundreds of egrets herons etc etc but never them even though when he landed he pretended to fish like the egrets next to him. I thought they ate water weeds etc but naybe they like super small fish that are hard to see when they get them . Not sure. I love the way these guys tuck their necks into their body leaving absolutely no room between neck and body. When I first see them like this in lightroom I always think there is something wrong with the sensor detail mushing up but when I look closely its just a real neat join leaving very little gap that the birds feathers then overlap and cover up . I've been trying to find any reference to it but so far nothing. They do stretch and flutter their wings a bit to each other during their brief courtship display (along with clattering of beaks), so the colour may be significant to them. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
