Pretty chuffed to get this shot even if it was in the shade. It's a Yellow-rumped Mannikin (external link), very scarce, at least in the Darwin region. This one was feeding with a flock of Chestnut-breasted Mannikins at Lee Point Dam late yesterday afternoon.

Nice shots, Pippan. Their disguise is good - I nearly missed the two behind the main subject.:-D

Interesting and beautiful bird.

Seems to have limited range. open riparian woodland

Ray I agree on the blending in.
There's 3 more birds there now I look :-)
Mm. Got beaten to it

Good shots, Pippan. Have you reverted back to the 90D - or was it to satisfy the exif requirements? You just can’t keep away from that 400 f2.8, can you! I will start a crowd funding page for you. Any offers? - anyone? - pause - sorry Pippan, not today it seems! :-):-). I’ve got an RF 100-500L with no camera to put it on.:-(

Trust a leaf? If I were down under there’d be more things I’d be worried about - without elaborating!:-)

there's a couple of plovers that have hatched young right on the side of our drive.
First baby plovers we've had here for several years/.
They are a bit of a nuisance as being so close to drive I'm conscious of not driving over them.
They come onto the gravel and sit around with mum watching
When I drive past mum and dad move away leaving these young chicks in grass on side of road.
I'm worried one will get squashed

The parents move away with much posturing. Their wings outstretched and spurs very evident
This is one such behaviour

My wife gets to use the R7 when we go birding together but she doesn't like a lot of weight, hence she uses it with the RF 100-400. I'll post one of her photos shortly. I'm still quite comfortable with the 90D.:) I'm getting so much muscle carrying that lens around I no longer need a gym subscription.
