This is one of Tess's shots with the R7/RF100-400 from Lee Point dam yesterday afternoon. It's a Bar-breasted Honeyeater (external link).

there's a couple of plovers that have hatched young right on the side of our drive.
First baby plovers we've had here for several years/.
They are a bit of a nuisance as being so close to drive I'm conscious of not driving over them.
They come onto the gravel and sit around with mum watching
When I drive past mum and dad move away leaving these young chicks in grass on side of road.
I'm worried one will get squashed

All great shots. Richard. I wonder how they survive on the ground with all the predators in your neck of the woods.

Not sure what the attrition rate is but I'd be expecting they survive pretty well.
It's the dogs in towns that do the damage
Plus people! They're not very popular amongst some!

Not popular up here either! But I've never heard of anyone deliberately killing their chicks (far too cute and helpless-looking). They're flourishing here because cane toads have taken out all the goannas and quolls--their main predators (of both chicks and eggs).

That is SO sad :-(

One of our (many) plovers (external link)--quite different to yours--in a natural habitat (for a change) at McMinns Lagoon.

A Sacred Kingfisher perched high up in the canopy and a Red-backed Fairy-wren, the smallest of Australia's fairy-wrens. Taken at Oxley Creek Common in Brisbane.

Cheers

Two beautiful images Dennis
The wren is extra beautiful, but I'm biased

A seriously impressive photo of the Red-backed

Thanks Richard, the Wren must have been on his morning tea break as he stayed on the wire for a good 15-20 seconds, allowing me to creep closer as he turned.:-)

Cheers

Dennis
