First baby plovers we've had here for several years/. They are a bit of a nuisance as being so close to drive I'm conscious of not driving over them. They come onto the gravel and sit around with mum watching When I drive past mum and dad move away leaving these young chicks in grass on side of road. I'm worried one will get squashed ![]() All great shots. Richard. I wonder how they survive on the ground with all the predators in your neck of the woods. It's the dogs in towns that do the damage Plus people! They're not very popular amongst some! Not popular up here either! But I've never heard of anyone deliberately killing their chicks (far too cute and helpless-looking). They're flourishing here because cane toads have taken out all the goannas and quolls--their main predators (of both chicks and eggs). Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
