Oh we have those up here too. Don't see them very often. Very secretive birds. This one was at Fogg Dam about this time last year. I haven't seen one since.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

A juvenile Blue-faced Honeyeater posed nicely on a wire fence, spotted along the Oxley Creek Common in Brisbane.:-)

The striking patch of bare facial skin is green in juveniles and turns blue blue in adults.

Cheers

Gotta love the expressions of many birds when you look at them straight on!

Gorgeous bird Dennis.
Agree on that pose. Classic.
Real look down your nose pose.

We had a Rail here, the cat brought it to me about a week after we moved in  vmad
Don't know if they're still about but not listed as vulnerable

Another secretive bird of the wetland fringes, the White-browed Crake (external link). Rarely leaves the safety of water chestnut reeds (other than to burst out and fly away to another, distant, reed patch), which, along with heat haze atmospherics over water, makes focusing difficult.

As I was returning to the car at the Oxley Creek Common in Brisbane, this Red-browed Finch flew across the path in front of me then stopped to pose for a couple of portraits before flying off again.:-)

Cheers

Thanks Charles, when the morning Sun catches their feathers, and they pose for the photographer, the colours really do pop.:-)

A male Superb Fairy-wren (in deep shade) and a male Red-backed Fairy-wren taken at the Oxley Creek Common wetlands this morning.

It always helps when they pose for the photographer on a fence post or branch.:-)

Cheers

This is one of our driveway crew
The youngsters crouch beside drive whist parents go into defence mode.
The youngsters don't seem perturbed and stroll around after short time, even pulling worms :-)
