Another first for me and very strange behaviour. Jacana catching a tiny fish. As strange as the Willie Wagtail doing same. Waqtched hundreds and hundreds of Jacanas and never ever seen this. Must have been a very hungry chappy !!

they are very showy birds in the bush and this shows why
Beautiful photo
Is it moulting? Assume so and not scabies or some dreaded disease?

Thanks Richard, I'm not quite sure about the bird's condition but as I watched, I got the impression it was a young 'un so maybe growing into its coat?

Cheers

Juvenile Banana-bird - Nightcliff. Id almost forgotten how sharp the 100-400 Mk2 can be as its been gathering dust for a few months now and I only took it out today because of a forecast of heavy rain and as I was on a bike it would be easier to carry and protect from the elements as opposed to my 600mm f4. And I had also forgotten how damn versatile this lens is so think its now going to stay out and handy as opposed to stuck in a closet .

We have a similar looking bird in SE Qld called the Blue-faced Honeyeater.

https://ebird.org …lfhon1?siteLanguage=en_AU (external link)

The juvenile has green on the face which turns to blue as the bird matures.

Cheers

Dennis

Yes, Dennis! That's the name I know them under. Maybe the banana benders from up north renamed them ;-)a
