Brown Goshawk at East Point - they normally hide amongst the trees or are too far, low, dark, or high ;-)a This time I was in my bird hide (aka car) when it suddenly popped out of the bushes on a branch in the open. Love these yellow eyes :-)

Male Gang Gang Cockatoo and Maned Wood Duck ducklings

Great captures!

Ah yes, I see. I didn't look closely enough and assumed it was the same unusual heron I saw a few days ago, which was a White-necked Heron, as per my crappy for-the-record snapshot taken in the evening gloom as I was leaving. I haven't seen one of these at Fogg Dam before either.

Very nice!

Superb Fairy Wrens
looked out the window few days ago and there were 4 wrens enjoying the early sun.
Time I gathered the camera there were three. They were a fair way off so just grabbed a couple of shots and then they were gone

Thanks Pippan! Someone mentioned that this could actually be a Sparrowhawk. Can you distinguish between the two species?

They are very hard to tell apart and I wasn't sure enough to say anything earlier (especially after my stupid assumption about the heron) but looking closely at your photos I think it is a Collared Sparrowhawk. But I'm still not sure. It appears to have that wide-eyed stare and just very small brows over the eyes, smaller than those of a goshawk. Those very long middle toes and the slight notch in its tail also make me think sparrowhawk.

haha, you were not the only one confused by the heron ;-)a
I might get one of the birdlife people here to check out this hawk. There are indeed very tricky to distinguish :-)

I'll be keen to hear what they say, and why.

Ha, the curious Willy Wagtail! Sometimes he came so close that I couldn’t focus with my 400mm lens :-)

Cormorant with catch stuck on his bill. Got it off and dropped it a few times before finally getting it down.
