One of the last shots i took in Iron Range before heading further north.

This is a juvinile Papuan Pitta (or Red-bellied Pitta). Not much is known about these migratory rainforest birds except they were all thought to migrate back to Papua New Guinea after the wet season. I think this one might have missed the boat.

THE main target this trip was the Palm Cockatoo. We'd seen a few flying around while in Iron Range but i never had a chace of a photo until we crossed the Jardine River and got to Alua and Seisia compgrounds at the top of Cape York. The Beach Almonds aren't fruiting so they are spending quite a bit of time on the ground foraging for fallen fruit.

I filled a couple of cards :)

This one was feeding on a Nonda Plum

Another one feeding on a fallen Beach Almond.

I know the watermark detracts from the image but i've had a few photos "stolen" lately so now it goes across the middle :)

one of our Grey Butcherbirds - Cracticus torquatus
With the green and gold backdrop :-)
Interesting to see Pippans Black one. I'd never heard of such a beauty.

I love these birds Richard. There is one that follows me around when I'm mowing the block, grabbing little morsels my mower uncovers. It appears as soon as I start the mower.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

They are fascinating, inquisitive birds
Not sure ours get that game

I've never seen this before. It's a Rainbow Bee-eater expelling a ball of what is presumably the indigestible parts of the insects it has eaten.

Very nice pics but your signature is a little distracting. The lower left or right would be great.

Jacky Winter, Microeca fascinans, at East Point, Darwin.

EDIT: As mybludog pointed out, this is in fact a Grey Whistler, Pachycephala simplex.
