Pheasant coucal, Centropus phasianinus, a large, non-parasitic, mostly ground-dwelling cuckoo, at Casuarina Beach.

It was. He was wary though and eventually made his way clumsily up into a tree.

Thanks Richard. That's its breeding colours. In non-breeding it loses the black and is mottled brown all over (both sexes).

Now that migratory shorebirds are arriving on Darwin's beaches and rocky flats, I need to learn to ID the myriad of them. I think this one, at Lee Point, is a Great Knot, Calidris tenuirostris, but if anyone knows or thinks otherwise, please correct me.

Great shot! I would also guess Great Knot, but I am also still struggling with the shore birds ;-)a

That's an unusual pitta. Does it sound similar to the Rainbow?

No different to the Rainbow Greg.
The Noisy and the Rainbow are very similar

Have you any of the whole bird?

Don't apologise for the WM. It's happened to me, and I know the culprit!

I really need to plan a trip to FNQ! They are just amazing!

Thanks Ulrike. Yep, everyone should do a trip up there but my advice would be to do it in the wet when the migrants are in
