Treat yourself to a day or two at Kingfisher Bay on K'gari (Fraser Is). They seem quite unfazed by people. Also Red-backed Fairy-wrens, swallows, ducks, moorhens, dusky and Lewin's Honeyeaters, Friarbirds, terns, Brahminy Kites and Kookaburras all within 200 metres of the accommodation.:)

Adult Kookaburra on approach to nest in Toohey Forest this morning.

After grabbing a handful of quick shots, I decided to beat a hasty retreat as the birds appeared quite nervous and a large noisy group was approaching on the trail, so I did not want to draw any attention to the nest.

I returned to the Kookaburra nest, a dis-used Termite Mound later the same day and found a position that was more hidden from the birds and forest visitors, but only offered limited backside views due to intervening trees and foliage.

Fantastic series & experience Dennis

I've only ever seen one kookaburra nest high up in a gum. And too far away to see anything worthwhile.
You were priveleged to watch that.

Black Butcherbird, Melloria quoyi, getting an evening meal in dim dusk light at the East Point mangrove boardwalk. It spent quite a while extracting the large hermit crab from its shell.

Thanks Richard, in the second shot, you can just make out a poor Gekko in the Adult's beak, ready to be fed to the juveniles.

Another happy cockatoo, this time a male Red-tailed Black, using his enormous beak to get to some delicious woollybutt seeds.
