Well, after reading comment after comment, I just placed my order for a EF 24-105 f/4 IS USM lens. ;)
It is one of the new "white box" lenses separated from a Canon kit, comes with all the usual goodies including USA warranty card. :)
I've been shopping for several days and made the decision after finding one of the lowest prices that I've found and shipping was included.
This lens will fall somewhere in between my Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 and my EF 70-200mm f/4 IS USM that I use on my trusty old 40D.
The wife and I have two grammar school graduations to attend in June and a grandson birthday also in June so the new lens will get a work out!

BOO this man! Just kidding. I'm on a spree of buying. I love everything but my wallet feels the pain. I just got the 24-105 and it is amazing! Get out and take your pics!

Had a 6D....
Then had a daughter....
Now have an SL2 and Mavic Pro.... Man life changes.
I would encourage you... To just go for it.

I had a 24-105 on my 50d and I absolutely loved it.
I didn't need the full wide angle and the extra reach was just fantastic.

Canon 6D, Canon L 24-105, Zeiss Distagon 28mm 2.8, Planar 50mm 1.4, Planar 85mm 1.4, Sonnar 135mm 2.8 & Zeiss Mutar 2x, Canon 50mm 1.8

The 24-105 arrived yesterday, a couple of days early. :)
No warranty card in the box so I went to the Canon web site and registered it there. Registration went thru w/o any problems at all. Canon gave me a 15% discount on future accessory purchases.
Nice solid lens. Feels very good on my 40D.
I took about 4 dozen test photos with it so far...nice and sharp. Auto focus extremely quiet and quick.
I took the same photos using my 17-55mm and the 24-105mm from a tri-pod. The 105 gives me exactly the extra reach over the 55 that I was looking for.
Both pics looked good taken at f/4. I think the 24-105 has a slight edge on sharpness however but not enough to get all excited over.
I'm pleased with my purchase and the $459 savings over the MSRP.

That's a good deal. I got myself a new "white box" 24-105 about 2 years ago from an authorized dealer and paid $900 for it. At the time, that was about the best deal going. It was perfect for my shooting with my (now sold) 7D and is just as perfect on my new 5D3. If you ever upgrade to a full-frame camera, you will use that lens a lot!

Will just add that good deals can be had on "white box" 24-105L's on eBay too. I'm guessing it had to do with a flurry of 6D kits being bought...

Anyways, sold mine on eBay too. Some lucky person grabbed up a fine copy from me for $630. Would've liked to get a little more, but that seems the going rate these days.

Ouch. The worst part, is after ebay fees, you netted about $567. :( That's the evil side to ebay. I'm sure a member here would have been happy to pay $575, $600, or more. Not rubbing salt in the wound, but it may help other members who are thinking about selling one.

Honestly, I don't see that happening anytime soon due to the cost of a FF body. :(

The 24-105 F/4.0L is a great lens, but it struggles in low light situations as I'm sure you already know based on the f-stop. Enjoy!
