Always messing with ideas, and different processing and editing ideas. So, simple question, does this work, or not?

"Straight" edit:

I'd try somewhere half way between. I don't understand what the writing background is doing for you.

It is not necessarily "doing" anyhting. I believe that it is always worth trying new things, attempting to change the way one does things so as not to get stuck in a rut.
I like the idea of a background, and I also like the idea of writing in an image. I combined the two. I personally like it, and so do quite a few other folks, but of course, it is subjective and some will either "not get it" or "not like it" or both. :)

By "WAY" too overexposed, you mean blown out and so on? It has a tonal filter on it which is where it differs from the first, and it is brighter, but there are very few blown out areas...at least not on my monitor (calibrated 2 days ago).

Glad you like the first. :)

Cheers

Yes I meant blown out. By the eyes on the second one. Nice close up shot

I see what you are trying to do here. I would bring back some of the black/contrast in the muzzle to get the same separation from the background overlay as the back of the head.

I like both of them.

The first is a nice portrait/capture, and the processing looks good.

The second makes me think it's a page out of something Darwin would have written. The processing (good or bad) makes it look almost like an image from a page out of a book circa 1800's.

I could actually envision the second one hanging in the baboon hall of a zoo or a museum.

Ok. It is bright - not sure it's entirely blown though (Just checked - numerically, brightest is 245,245,243 - close but not blown). I will try to darken that a little and create separartion as Dave3222 suggests below. :)

Yes, I could try that. Which would help with what genesimmons is saying above. :)

I think you hit the nail on the head with the idea I had...a naturalist's journal...I should attempt to make it more like that, I think. :)

Cheers

Another edit...this is the original version with the definition applied.
Thoughts?

I like these and am warming to your original idea. I still think something in between.

Now I understand the writing I see potential, but I feel the need something to make it obvious what the writing is.

I did make the word "Baboon" fairly obvious at the top left, as a lead in...:)

I am aiming to have the viewer think a little more...which is why the writing is faded more - I suppose a balence between having to try to hard, and making it too obvious is the key...

This is an idea I have tried a few times, words and pictures...here a studio one I did...
