This weekend I was watching/photographing the Royal Turns at breeding sight and noted that some male birds were bringing food to the females but I never saw one actually give them food. Also none of the males bringing food got to mate

Only the larger birds (adults?) actually mated even though they never brought food and the little guy went to try his luck elsewhere.
