Packing kit for travelling?

I managed to find a hand-luggage trolley (stole it off my girlfriend) that JUST manages to hold my laptop (it's a big 17" one) with enough space in the main area of the trolley to hold my Amazon Basics bag with all of my camera kit in it. Should be fine I think ... although I bet they make me unpack it all at the security gate which will be a pain!

Chargers, cables etc have all gone in my hold luggage .. which I think is lighter than my hand luggage!

Orias, who are you travelling with? If it's Easyjet, I traveled with them between christmas and new year. My carry on luggage wasn't checked for size or weighed, and I had most of the stuff in my sig with me.

I always go British Airways or Iberia as they fly to Heathrow, 15 mins from home, and they also have a much higher weight allowance so I can fill my bags with English food to bring back.

I've never had hand luggage weighed in probably about 30 flights over the last few years. I should be fine unless sod's law rears it's ugly head

My personal rule...only check stuff that you don't mind losing. Obviously no one wants to have their stuff stolen or lost, but if it comes down to clothes or my 6D, the clothes will lose every time.

Well then, if I see a naked person carrying around a 6D I'll be sure to say hi!

The only things that I check are tripods and monopods. Of course, I check accessories. But the camera gear is always in carry-on. I use a Pelican 1514/1510 which holds a Mark II, Mark III and a 7d, plus six lenses. I use a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 550AW shoulder bag, which has a laptop compartment, and I put a 7th lens and two Speedlites in it, plus a portable CF-capable harddrive...and a book, etc.

The first and last time I checked a photo bag was in Naples. Here's what happened to it.

Just as an update, I made it to the UK and back with my camera bag inside my hand-luggage trolley + laptop. I didn't take it out at security at any point, and it was never a problem.

The added bonus is that Costco in the UK currently has the Manfrotto 190XB with 804RC2 head for £88 (without VAT), just over £100 with VAT. So I picked one of those up whilst I was there as I needed a new tripod anyway .. that had to go in the hold luggage of course!!

Congrats on the tripod. Interesting that you could get it at Costco. But I suspect if you want a CF card, you have to buy a gross.

If you're worried about the carry-on weight allowance, just buy a photography vest. If they say you're pack is too heavy, step away from the counter, put you vest on, and load it up with lenses. It's perfectly legal...they can't count anything your'e wearing against you and can only weigh your bag.

May sound silly, but it works!

You can also just attach the heaviest lens u have on your camera and put the camera around your kneck. that should save a few kilos
