It would help to know which lenses you have. Any lens designated "EFS" will work on any Camera that has a letter name like XT, XS, XTi, T3i, etc. They will also work on XXD and XXXD cameras where XX(X) is numbers, such as 450D, 60D, 650D. They will also work on, specifically, the 7D.

EFS lenses will not work on any 1D, 5D, or 6D series Camera.

EF lenses will work on any current Canon camera.

If you want advice on a camera, let us know what you take photos of and what you budget is. The T2i is certainly a good camera. You may end up keeping that.

what is your current body not doing for you ?
how is it holding you back ?
(please note that "its not, i just want new gear" is a perfectly acceptable answer)

as Collegekid has noted, your EF-S lenses won't work on 1D, 5D or 6D cameras EF lenses will work on all canon EOS cameras.

(EF-S have a small white cube to line up when the lens is mounted, EF lenses have a little red circular dot)

Thank you very much CollegKid and Echo63.

I have the canon 50mm 1.4f and the 100mm macro by canon too. Not sure if it's EF or EFS. will check when I get home.
Not happy with the T2i. Too slow and results are not great to my taste. And, as Echo63 said: I just want a new gear.. I thing 2k is OK for me to budget at this time

Thanks again

"Too slow" may be the issue with lenses, not camera. I had no problem practically instantly focusing on running kids in near complete darkness using T3i and a lens with HSM motor. Before investing in 7D make sure you won't have the same (real or perceived) problems using the same lenses.

For the most part, a new camera will not fix that. Both your lenses will work on any camera Canon currently sells.

thanks much
So, Amamba, 7D should be my next body, considering my excitement for new gear?

The 7D is a great camera. It has a very sophisticated, highly configurable auto-focus system. If you need that, great. If not, the 60D is available for about 1/2 the cost of a 7D. Budget matters.

Think about better glass, maybe a 24-105 f4 L series. Camera wise, knowing what style of photography you do will better determine which camera suits your needs.

I'd like more detail about how your T2i is holding you back. You say "results are not great to my taste" but I'm not sure what that means. If you are looking for a drastic improvement in IQ, you're likely to be disappointed. All of the current bodies are very close in IQ with the only real difference being a slight improvement in noise as you go to higher ISOs on the full frame cameras. (And a little more background blur when you frame your subject at the same size in the image at the same aperture). There is also a slight perspective shift that goes along with this if you step closer with a full frame camera to achieve the same subject framing.

The differentiator on these bodies is really features. Some features can improve things but only if what you're doing needs it. For instance, if you are shooting sports and feeling like you are getting too many shots out of focus or just barely missing the right moment, then a 7D may solve your problem. If you are doing landscapes and using higher ISOs and you like to make big prints, or if the background blur or perspective shift is important, then a 6D or even a used 5DII may fit the bill.

The T2i is a very good camera. I have one as a backup and I can tell you that the images from that and my 7D are nearly identical and my T2i images are in fact a tad sharper because of the 7D's more aggressive AA filter. The T3i and T4i are pretty much the same sensor as well. If the features are limiting you, then upgrading will help. But aside from all of these things I mention, the other possible causes of your problems are lenses, technique, and understanding that sometimes you just can't get a good shot of something at the time and place you want to.

FWIW, I would keep the T2i after the upgrade. If you currently have a budget of $2k, then it's worth more in your bag as a backup than the $225 you'll get for it on the used market.

If you've got EF-S lenses that you want to keep using, the suggestions above are good. I'd also look at the 70D. If you're ok with used stuff, the 50D is a great value and an incredible body -- throw Magic Lantern on it and you get some really nice features too.

My upgrade from the T2i was to a 1D3, but that's certainly not new, and can't take EF-S lenses. If you bump your budget by $250-$500, a used 1D4 is within reach, and you'll be in another world at that point, regarding handling and shooting performance, but would need to trade your EF-S stuff for EF.

Your current results are based on a whole system, not one component. Improving the wrong thing won't appreciably "fix" the results. The lenses you have are pretty good, although the 50 does have a slower focusing motor. The 100 macro (if it's the USM version) should be pretty quick, but there are other faster focusing lenses available. The more pro level cameras have faster AF processors and more "tweaked" algorithms for sports. If your problem is not AF speed but accuracy, then indeed a camera like the 7d will improve your keeper rate. If your problem is poor performance indoors when it's dark, then a camera like the 6d that has really good lowlight performance might do better for you (or you could add an external flash to solve the issue).

I would suggest renting a 7d for a week and shooting your current lens lineup, shooting the subjects you have the most trouble with, and seeing if things improve. If they don't, then maybe share more details about what you are doing, including images that are "not good". You could also rent some faster focusing lenses like the 135/2 or 85/1.8 and compare their performance with what you have.

Some clarification

EFS lenses don't work on the 10D.

EFS lenses also work on the XXXXD cameras.

Basically any Rebel DSLR , 20D through 70D, and 7D, that seems a bit easier to call out.

That's like asking a heroin dealer if you should keep using.

upgrade and enjoy your new camera. Take a look at the 6D or 7D on the canon refurbished program. While these are two cameras that cater to different types of shooting, if you are looking for a good overall, taking a little of everything shooter, those will keep you satisfied for a while.
