I'm cautious to try this before hearing any responses for I'm not sure if any gear could get shorted out. Having a 5d3 with a a Yongnuo RF- 603 mounted firing two remote Yongnuo 560 flashes with RF-603's attached. On top of the RF-603 that is attached to the camera I would mount a ST-E3-RT to trigger two 600 EX-RT's in ETTL. Is it possible for this to work and if so can I still use the ST-E3-RT to adjust the 600's and would I still be able to adjust the 600's from the camera's menu. The purpose is to try to use the 560's in manual mode to light a background while the 600's would be used as key and fill lights.

If I remember correctly that wont work, because the RF603's dont pass through ETTL to the hotshoe on the trigger.

OK! But if I bypass ETTL and go manual would I get this set up to work?

I think you need the ETTL communication channel to get from the camera to the ST-E3.

I think that set up will work to fire the flash, however, you won't get ETTL AND your flash will be out of sync.

How about using the 560 in optical slave mode

Thanks guys! The whole point of this is trying to use a few 560's I have laying around instead purchasing more 600's. Time to get a couple more 600's.

How about getting some yn622s it should be able to control your 600s in ettl and then just set the others manually

Or get a trigger that has a pc cord insert like the radiopopper jrx and use those on your 560s separate from your ste3.

I have always had it on mind that I would pick up one or two more 600's in the future and using the older stuff I had on hand in the mean time. I am happy with 600's and don't have to worry about cables or triggers.

As mentioned above you can still use the optical slave mode of the 560s. Its not as elegant as RF but it works

Thank you to everyone has taken time out to reply to this thread. As of this afternoon I have sold the 560's to a forum member and now this moves me closer to getting another 600ex-rt.
