What better way to celebrate St Mark's day than to capture this St Mark's fly (named after its appearance on or around St Mark's day on 25th April).
The St Mark's Fly only lives for about a week, spending most of its life in the larval stage. After mating the females lay their eggs in the soil and die shortly afterwards. This specimen is a male (males have larger eyes touching each other while females have smaller eyes on either side of the head).
