The Fantastically Fast Fledging of Nest 2014-1
Thanks everybody for your comments.
Sorry we didn't get back to this sooner but we've had a very busy Bluebird weekend here. Setting up at 6am and watching continuously until dark for 3 days running...
Then finally on Sunday evening (Day18) at just after 6pm all five nestlings of Nest 2014-1 became fledglings. They popped out of the box one right after the other, each one flying directly to the trees without difficulty... and the nest was empty in just 9 minutes.
#1 6:03pm
#2 6:05pm
#3 6:08pm
#4 6:09pm
#5 6:11pm
This is certainly a record for us... Speed Fledging - what a concept!
Unfortunately only the last baby out landed near enough for a photo and with poor light so late in the day I had to capture it with ISO 800 (not ideal for superzoom cameras) :
We did also get some comparably low-tech slomo video to document the event however, which can be seen here:

Ben and Faith continued to carry food up to them in a far tree until dusk, where they endured thunderstorms thruout their first night in the wild. But we know they were well-fed and safely off the ground at least, and they could all sure do with a shower after 18 days in the box together.
We are delighted of course.

Please wish them good luck.

These are beautiful Kenn.....what kind of tree is that with those gorgeous pink blooms on it?
Sharon
Hi Sharon,
That's a RedBud tree. These lovely trees are plentiful in our community and splash the countryside with this glorious color each Spring. It was also the first landing site for our Baby Blue #5 in the photo above.
