I think it's a case off you can't have everything….if you need/want 10+ffs, 300,000 shutter life…than you need a solidly constructed shutter system. These are the little things we trade off…although shutter noise is rarely mentioned ( albeit important for your settings). I think the 1Dx, being Canon's throw if off a cliff …pick it up and shoot camera, will always be clunkier and "stiffer/louder" than the consumer ends. I also think you may be a bit oversensitive to the sound, after listening to the 5mark3. Shoot a couple weddings and then ask the clients when you present your work if they recalled the camera being loud….given the solidness of your work, I bet they don't. :)

Great advice! Thank you!

i cant find the link right now but I found a case that you can put the 1dx into for stuff like this where you need to quiet it up some. Now it isnt cheap by no means.. $1300??? but the 1dx fits in this and supposed to really work?

Let's see it because that is a REAL camera, it is a monster you don't want it to sound like a cheap camera. When you buy a Porsche you don't want it to sound like a Prima.

I think I'll just learn to live with it :-) I used the 1DX some yesterday when assisting for a friend at a wedding & Although I didn't use it during the ceremony (not confident enough in my knowledge of the controls yet) it really was as loud as I first thought :-) And boy were the images sweet!!

Don't worry about it, when they look around you already have the shot!
I use my 1DX for wildlife and they don't seem to care, though one Vixen did look back to see what the noise was and gave me some lovely images! Then she just ignored me.....

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

The thing is, guests expect to hear your camera clicking when you're the hired professional. There are occasions at some churches and temples (or other musical performances) where they want it to be as silent as possible, but those are rare for weddings in my experience.

Just be selective when you make the frames – wait for ambient noise, don't use a rapid burst unless you have to, etc. You should be fine.

I use my 5D3's on the Silent Shutter mode during the ceremony only and often guests ask me why I'm not taking pictures.
