Ok, have another question for you camera experts out there. On my 60D in the menu settings under (Operation/Others) Focusing screen. What setting am I supposed to be set on for this lens. I have 3 options of

0:Ef-A
1:Ef-D
2:Ef-S

What is this menu all about. Right now my 60D with the Tokina lens is set on Ef:-S

If someone could explain this menu I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Heya,

Those are for focus screens, you buy them. EF-A is standard with the 60D. You can buy the EF-D and EF-S one separately.

Don't bother setting it to anything other than EF-A (default, 0) unless you physically changed the screens.

You don't need any special setting to use ANY lens with that camera.

Very best,

really? I had no idea. If I go to EF-A the image is much brighter. Almost to bright. EF-S seems to me to have the best looking photo on my 60D

what is a focus screen?

It's the piece of frosted glass (or plastic) that you see when looking through the viewfinder. It is a screen onto which the lens projects an image, allowing you to compose your shot.

There are 3 (OEM) options for the 60D. I believe the Ef-s for example, is one that is optimized for manual focusing with fast (large aperture) lenses. If you rely mainly on AF, there is no real need to change screens.

These screens affect the amount of light reaching the exposure sensors, so the camera compensates for exposure if you tell it you installed one of these options.

Hope this helps, I'm sure others will fill in the blanks.

If you want brighter photos, just use exposure compensation, or change your metering mode, assuming you are not in manual mode.

Maybe someone else changed the focus screen before you bought it? Did you buy the camera new or used?

Ef-A Standard Precision Matte
- the supplied focusing screen, bright and with a normal matte

Ef-D Precision Matte with grid
- a more matte finish easier manual focusing also includes a grid pattern

Ef-S Super Precision Matte
- even more matte but obviously slightly darker, optimized for F2.8 and faster lenses

Sometimes it's good to spend a few minuts to read the manual.
But who bothers nowadays?
