I bought the Xit XTETC tubes, and I'm quite impressed with their functionality. I don't see how they could be considered better or worse than anything else out there (Canon, Kenko), but they are a fraction of the cost. I paid fifty bucks through Amazon. I was going to get the cheaper ones until I found out that aperture couldn't be controlled through the camera with the really cheap ones. These have the normal electronic connections that allow aperture control along with autofocus (not that autofocus is helpful).

But these were still cheap (with metal mounts). Fifty bucks. Rockin'

Anyway: Sorry for the "advertisement". I have no interest in whoever made these things. I just made an impulse buy and had fun setting up some shots today. Thought I'd share.

Here's a dollar.

Tomorrow (or the next day when I have time) I'll find something else to shoot (except bugs. Someone has to shoot something that isn't bugs. Don't get me wrong: people do a great job of it, but I'm not going to spend much time on it. I want to find something that normally isn't photographed for macro).

This was shot with the 40mm pancake. I forget how many tubes I stacked. I rushed the trial efforts a bit. This is my very first attempt at macro.

My concern about the cheap tubs is the all-plastic bodies and quality of the pins that connect the lens electronics to the camera. I've read stories of the pins causing damage to the camera contacts.

Glad they are working out, just be careful with heavier and more expensive lenses https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=186161.

Thanks. Like I mentioned, it's mostly for use with my 40mm pancake and to see if macro is something I'll enjoy. I believe that most of my shots will be soft box type of shots with various items (colored pencils, jewelry, etc.).
