This shot was taken outside the nest. It's quite common when you're at the nest to get pics like this, however, one of the reasons I stopped going was because of the limitations of where you can shoot.
Hated the BG from day one, and used to change it for something more pleasing but it ended up getting boring, so I've gone back to just getting grab shots when I can. It's more appealing.

Often preferring the same perches and cycling them daily. If the bird is limited to one watershed, and that watershed only has one stream it feeds in, then you can often observe this pattern of behavior over a series of several days. This will require patience and many hours of long distance observation. But in the end, you can maximize your perch time using this method. --
