If I'm wrong on the ID please correct me. Took this image today,4/27/14 in North East Missouri. We had a severe Thunderstorm fast approaching and needed to get out of the field and back to the main road so grabbed the camera from my truck for a quick shot. I was not successful at closing the 80 yard gap by very much before it flew up into a nearby tree. They probably are plentiful in my area but I've seldom seen this bird before on any of our farms and was pleased to have been able to get a shot of it at all.

Yes good shot. We have them here but they are very stealthy! Nicely done.

Thanks for the comments and confirmation from everyone. I was happy to get the shot but it is pale in comparison to John's Black Capped night Heron.

Very pretty Steve...and what a great find.
You did a great job not only on the bird but the reflection too. I particularly like the "reedy" appearance in the reflection.
