WB SHIFT (how?)

Hi folks,

I have been using dslrs (500d and my 4 month old 70D) for three years now and have not attempted to use the WB Shift of my cameras on my wedding shoots or alike which involves professional fees. I tried to explore it sometimes but I am not confident in using it especially when a contract is at stake. The reason is I am confused of its purpose, questions like WHERE, WHEN and HOW to use it. I do not know how mireds (stated at the manual) should be dealt. But I do have an idea of its purpose, its correcting white balance right? Its just that I am ignorant on this chart. Hope you can share your insights guys, it wiil definitely improve my photography, I know. Thanks in advance guys.

It's the same thing as you used to do with color conversion filters in the days of the film. But today you can shoot RAW and fix this in post just as well.

So it has a purpose for the jpeg photographer mainly, if he wants a certain color tone, or correct for one, directly out of the camera.

Mired is a quantity of color correction, also used to specify filters. The reference to this unit is for compatibility reasons. You can set the camera to mimic the effect of a filter.

I don't get WB shift/bracketing, therefore, I don't use them. I do custom WB in any light other than daylight and flash. LR4.4 is very good with individual color channels.
