Wow Cheryl, these are awesome. I'm assuming the second one is the female? I've never seen one, or a photo of one!

Love these woodpeckers. Very nice shots. Especially like the male. Recently saw one of these take off in flight, and I was right below it. That belly is very yellow from that angle.
I am curious how you got that angle on these birds. Looks like you are on their level.

Thank you Sandy! The second is the female, & a noisy one at that.. Nice to have the pair stick around, hope they nest here..

Thank you Joel! The males 'red' is brilliant, that color's unedited. She more or less blends into the trees. They were both on a tree right in front of me & kept moving up & down it, was fortunate to get them down low..

They sure are Jeff, & they sure stand out around here...Never noticed til I was checking the images on my computer & I noticed her 'tongue' (if that's what you call it), was sticking out, kinda cool... Thanks for stopping by to comment!

What a nice pair of sapsuckers Cheryl.
Love the red of the male, and the 2nd using it's tail as a third claw. Maybe it's hidden, but shouldn't there be some red on the top of the female's head?

Thanks Steve! The male is a brilliant red, lovely.. The 2nd one has no red, could it be an immature one? Not sure, my books don't show the female.. Here's another shot showing her back more.
