Oct 27, 2014 11:21 | #453 I've found that the 50 Art produces in focus images about 80% as well as my 135L when in servo mode and using the "good" focus points on my 5d mk2. Honestly the 5Dmk2 has a terrible AF system, so ive never had great luck with any lens at a wide aperture. I think the 50 art, when calibrated by the dock, is more accurate and fast than canon's AF systems from the 5d2 era can handle. https://www.instagram.com/nd14411

In a bit of a quandary - I used to own the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens, I loved this focal distance on my 7D but just hated the fact that my 50mm 1.4 was not really focusing very well. Very inconsistent. So it went the distance and I now have the lovely 35mm f2 IS. I miss the 50mm and looked at replacing it. Tried 2 versions of the previous Sigma 50mm 1.4, both could not focus very well, some front some back focusing - very annoying. So, do I save every last penny and go for the 50mm 1.2 or do I try the new Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art version. I am worried that it will also have the focusing problems. Any suggestions from anyone. Is the Canon 1.2 really worth every penny, or has the Sigma Art version fixed all the focusing problems. From what I know the 50Art doesn't have the focus shift issues that the EF 50/1.2L does. I can't remember reading anything about focussing issues with the 50Art, not like with the 35Art. My F mount 35 and 50 Arts have been great AF wise

My F mount 35 and 50 Arts have been great AF wise I don't want to discredit what you said, but it should be noted that there have been many users (including myself) who experienced focusing errors with the 50A. That said, there have also been a ton of users (as this thread shows) who have had nothing but flawless success with theirs. I personally went back to my 50L after quite a bit of time spent with the 50A due to my own real-world experience, but I also know plenty of folks who gave up the 50L for the 50A and haven't looked back.

Nov 01, 2014 15:12 | #465 I was having really great luck nailing the focus the other day at the pumpkin patch at f1.4. I got keepers of just about every shot I wanted with a 3-6 shot burst on AI Servo. https://www.instagram.com/nd14411
