bought this lens a couple of days ago... optics and build are more than fine, focus accuracy is difficult in my first experiences, even on a tripod taking 10 pictures from static objects still results from time to time in a couple out of focus shots ... But still need to take time to set my AF corrections in my body's .

Really debating if I should sell my 1.2 for this.

It's a pretty tough question if you already have the 1.2L IMO. The Sigma is sharper at all common apertures but I believe bigger and heavier. There's also the 'rendering' difference between the two lenses and focus issues with outside focus points on cameras like the 5D Mark III. The 1.2L has its own focus shift quirks though but if you've learned to work with them, it's a bit of a non-issue I think.

I think the best for you to do is to rent one and test it out side by side with your L doing the usual things you do with the Canon.

For those who don't already have the 1.2L the 50Art is a much cheaper entry into inexplicably sharp, fast normal glass

I've had this lens for a month and while it is certainly sharp, it does have issues. I also own the 50L and have for sometime and I'm very familiar with the 50L's quirks.

The 50A does not like BBF in AI Servo focusing method. My experiences have determined that using One Shot and hearing the focus confirmation beep is the only way to confirm locked focus. In addition, AF should be setup for single AF point and not surround. I don't focus and re-compose but I can imagine that this technique could result in inconsistent focus.

Given what I know about this lens would I have bought it in the first place? Probably not. Too many work arounds and more than the 50L. Build quality is great, looks nice, nice case but all these things should have been worked out by Sigma before release.

This is my first and likely last Sigma lens. Hoped my experiences would have been better and probably would have bought the 35A. Not going to do that and i'm thinking the 50A will go on the block in the new year. YMMV

Well, I'm on the fence here...I gave my 50L to my Cousin a few weeks ago (they're more expensive in China) and was thinking about replacing it with the 50A...I bought a 35A and it's fricken fabulous...no issues whatsoever. If it's a matter of missing focus once in a while I can certainly deal with that...But if it's frustratingly frequent...Not sure I want to deal with that.

Picking one of these up in just over a week as well as the 35 to go with a 6D, can't wait! The shots on here are fantastic, this lens is something.

Well I em really pleased with 50A on my 5DmkIII. Focus is spot on, never missed, even on ai servo. But i recommend first to try on your body and decide, because some users have focus issues. But that issues can be solved with micro focus adjustment in the body.
