Can't wait to get this lens back!! It rolled out of my car and onto the pavement one day in October and no longer mounted to my 6D. Ugh. Just sent it in for repair.

I think the focal length of the 50 art is too close to your 35L. I'd go with an 85 alternate until you obtain funds for the 85L, but you must not like what you're seeing among those options. Correct?

I am on the fence. I am about to purchase this glass mainly because my 35 art and is amazingly sharp and love it but the other half me is saying wait until the 85 art drops. Also I don't really think its fits in with my lineup. Do I really need a 50? I am a portrait shooter especially shallow dof portraiture.

Can someone convience me to purchase this glass;)

I am selling my 17-40 and want another portraiture lens so the sale will fund this glass.

Well, my 2 penneth FWIW: a few months back I owned 35mm and 85mm primes (Canon) and had just about convinced myself that a 50mm wouldn't offer much benefit as an addition to those. Then I tried the Sigma 50mm. I was really impressed with the quality of the results which were almost as good as the 85mm f/1.2. Having only recently bought my first Sigma lens (180mm f/2.8) I knew how good the latest designs were. The 50 didn't disappoint. I really like the focal length in that sometimes the 35mm can feel a bit too short and the 85mm can feel a bit too long whereas the 50mm just feels right most of the time.
Forgive the repost, but the shot below was one of my first test images with the 50mm, just a snap of my cat on the wall, but it got straight into explore on Flickr and currently has over 24k views etc. Okay, I know that's not important but you get the idea. Bottom line, if your able to get it, do so.

I've seen raves about the glass but I've also seen negative reviews. I had a canon 50 1.4 a few years back and loved it but I've been shooting my 135L exclusively for all my recent portraiture but indoors it's very restricting and want another prime lens. I want the 85 1.2 ideal but right now that's not in the cards so I figure why not go with the 50 art since its in my range right now and have my 17-40L to sell to help fund the purchase.

yeah, have a think about the 85mm options (EF 85/1.8, Sigma 85/1.4) too.
50mm is quite a bit wider than your 135L, not a bad thing just very different if the main reason is to get around the issue of the 135L being too long indoors. An 85 (I think) will still give you some nice telephoto POV while being noticeably wider than 135mm.

All that said, I love my 50Art. It doesn't get used much but when it does it gives great results. I won't be parting with it soon

I have the S35, S50, and S85. Never felt like they were overlapping.

The detail I can get out of my new 50A is, at times, staggering. I've only had it for a week, but very impressive glass so far.

FYI, I saved about 20% bidding on Greentoe.

Here's a gingerbread house my 8 year old daughter made from a kit this morning as a present for her brother's birthday:

I think you have the itch to buy a new lens. ;-)a So here are my thoughts on the matter. I believe most (not all) folks are either a 35 person or 50 person. When I started trying 35mm lenses I ended up selling my 50. It was either 35 or jump to 85. Many would say 35mm isn't good for portraits, i.e. perspective, lack of subject separation, etc… I think 50 is better than 35 for full on portraiture in this respect AND would work better indoors than the 135. BUT, if you are planning on keeping the 35 I think this is where an 85 option would be a better choice. What isn't working with your S35 for indoor work? For the prime type folk my opinion is that the triad of lenses is either 24, 50, 85 or 35, 85, 135. My 2 cents. Probably didn't help... :p

Cory I always have an itch for new glass bro;) My first prime lens purchase 4 yrs ago was a Canon 50 1.4 and I shot the hell out of it and became obsessed with shallow dof and it really allowed me to learn a lot about composition and made me the shallow dof junkie I am today. So part of me wants another 50 and the sigma art IQ is amazing and the price is in my range without having to worry about my wife hitting me with a frying pan. lol I love my 35 for my natty light imagery and when I need to be wide indoors for wedding stuff with a speedlite but its easy to get to close to a subject and getting that big head distortion which drives me up the freakin wall. I know that with a 50 I will not run into that issue and will allow me to shoot low light and shallow portraiture without distortion. From owning the 35 art and being blown away by the tack sharp imagery makes me a believer in the art line and makes me want the 50 art cause I know the 85 art is not coming soon enough for me to wait it out. lol I am in the process of building a huge constant light DIY ring light and the 50 art would be an awesome combo to shoot with that. So there is another reason as to why I want it. lol I look at this way I can pickup the 50 art and shoot it till the 85 art drops and then sell the 50 art to help fund it for the meantime. lol I just put my 17-40L up today for sale so hopefully someone picks her up so I can just pull the trigger and get the 50 art. lol

Yeah I know I am crazy lol.
