You would only really need the dock with out micro adjusting in your body.

I didn't get the dock either, but I did need some +MFA. It has been three months now and I am completely satisfied.

has anyone used this lens and v2 of the canon 24-70? Is the sigma noticeably sharper?

I had the MK2 for a short while. It's comparable but not really the same purpose IMHO.

My 35 was sharper than this 50 and my 50 seems similar to yours. It's not bad by any means but my 35 was amazing.

Not sure my 35 is any better than the 50, I'll have to look it it now you said that :)
Could be that the AF is a bit out as I've had to AFMA it twice so far - probably got it a bit out the first time though. It is very sharp though.

Ya that could be it. I remember it took some -1, 4, 2, -6 on my 35 it was some kinda funky but after that it was solid.

Need to work on the 50 it seems.

I had to adjust mine as well, I'm just sad that my 5d doesn't have the feature too because I love this lens so much. I'll probably end up swapping my bodies around and buy a 6D I I can use it(any reason to upgrade right lol) Other than its weight it is perfect, and it just lets me know it's built to last!

The dock will do the same thing, just a bit more awkward to set up as you have to keep swapping it between camera and dock to check/setup.

It is awkward. I did this with the 18-35mm. Multiply that process times four different focal lengths. I got there, but I never want to do it again.
