I'm a little late to the party, but I'm loving this lens after just one week. I picked it up due in part to the terrific contributions on this thread. Here's a couple that aren't portrait or wedding.

Almost wide open.

Stopped down and slow.

Here's a quick snap I did wide open. I haven't done any focus adjustments.

Is anyone else having no end of problems getting a good copy of this lens?

Im on my 4th (yes, 4th!!!!!) copy now and I've just shot a wedding this weekend with a load of OOF shots with it. I shoot the Sigma 35art and the Canon 85mm 1.2 L II with no issues (the occasional OOF, but 90% in focus) where as my Sigma 50mm 1.4 art is around 60% in focus.

I seem to be very unlucky but I am considering getting my 5th copy of this lens...

Anyone else in the same boat?

Strange! My 18-35 and 35 needed some adjustment but my 50 is bang-on! Have you tried to dial things in with the dock? Seems very unlikely that you would actually need to exchange 4 copies. Worst case scenario, I would think you might need to send it to sigma for adjustment (along with your camera body). If you're hoping to get a flawless copy with no micro adjusting though, I think you're going to be waiting a long time. Personally, the way I see it is, I accept that any/all sigma lenses will require some tweaking and that's just the way it is. You're not buying a canon lens designed and tested on canon bodies, therefore you shouldn't expect it to perform perfect straight out of box.

My first and only copy worked fine on all 3 of my bodies (2x1Dx,5DIII) without any need for adjustment.

Perhaps you're not super picky? :p I LOVE Sigma lenses but j have to admit, I do NOT expect any of their lenses to work perfectly without any fine tuning.

I'm new to the party and am happy shooting at 1.4 up close. No adjustments, good out of the box
