if i kept my 7D2 I would have bought I may have bought this lens for icehockey - but it sure seems like them should have released it with IS and wethersealing

I cannot believe I waited so long to get this lens...

My favourite focal length is 50mm. It always has been - since my dad gave me his Canon T70 with a 50/1.8 when I was a teenager.

I've owned every EF 50 1.8, but the colour rendition was never like my L lenses. I took the 50L for a testdrive from CPS and although I get that it's magic, the lack of contrast and sharpness was not for me. It was just too much of a departure from what I'm shooting with the rest of my lenses.

But the 50 Art reviews all speak of focus inconsistencies... So I avoided the purchase. Finally I decided to give it a try (a couple months ago now) and this has become my favourite lens. By far.

I must be lucky. Mine focuses perfectly, for what I shoot. Which is mostly people less than 12 feet away.

If I walk around my house and try to "test" the focus accuracy, the lens misbehaves. If I shoot portraits, it's got a 6th sense for locking on pupils. It's actually scary accurate. I use it in Servo and One Shot and have as good luck with it as I do with my 135L and 70-200II.

Anyway, if you are like I was and you are on the fence, based on what you've read in the reviews, find a camera store with a fair return policy and give this lens a try!

I have +10 AFMA on one of my 5D3's and 0 AFMA on the other and they both work perfectly.

Paired to my Sony A7R2...it nails focus and is sharper than any other lens I own...I recently rented a 24ART and it was the same...so it has to be added to the bag soon...

Beautiful captures ont this thread, keep them coming !! This seems to be a really great lens. I love the colors, contrast & sharpness it produces.
Many of you talk about the front/back focussing problem or sometimes random focus. I recently heard about the Sigma USB dock... Did it solve the problem?

The dock can micro adjust the focus distance over four distances. If you lens is having sporadic mis focus, sometimes front sometimes back, it dock won't help much. It will help your lens be more accurate along a given distance. handy if you find your lens is bang on when you subject is up close & soft when they are in the distance, for example. My 50mm was +6 with the camera AFMA so perfect once that was done.
