Hi,

I'm going on safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya on the 20th February and, while I think I've covered everything, I have been wondering about whether I should get a vest with lots of pockets or not.

The only one that I've heard of that caters specificially for photographers so far is by Domke. Does anyone know of any others? Preferably in khaki.

Thanks :)

I do like the look of the POTN vest but I am kinda worried it may be too late to get one by the 20th. How long does delivery take in your experience?

I'm in the UK so chances are slim then I guess given that I've only got 6 working days.

I have used the Domke vest for several years in Africa and have not been able to wear it out. It's a good vest with a LOT of pocket. You will be finding things you thought you lost in it after you get home. Are you going on an organized tour or self drive. I usually camp just outside the Sand River Gate. It is very secluded. Be sure to try to drive along the Mara River north from the Mara Serena Lodge. Best viewing and you won't be crowding around a few animals with 5-6 other vehicles.:)

Hi,

I can get a Domke vest in time. I'm going on an organised Tour for my Honeymoon. My wife-to-be and I are booked for 4 nights at the Little Governor's Camp in the Masai Mara and then we are going to Zanzibar for 5 nights of beach time.
We'll be at the mercy of the Guides this time around so I can only hope for good photographic opportunities.

We did a self-drive in Hluhluwe in Natal, South Africa last year but I was new to my photography hobby then and missed so many shots by just staring at the animals we encountered and forgetting to take pictures!

Have fun. Post some pics from the honeymoon. I'm interested. :) And this time, stare and take the pictures. You have the gear now. Let's see some memories!

You should be able to pick up one there if you need to. I dunno Kenya but most of the parks in ZA and Namibia sell stuff that will do the job and much cheaper even at tourist rates ... the Masai Mara is as big as it gets tourist turnover wise. Check out the shop.

I woudl advise getting one slightly larger than your normal size, because when it's full, it not so comfy.
