Sorry, should read A77 II, not A99 II.

Whoever at Canon is working on the 7D II should be taking some notes from Sony on this one: http://www.dpreview.com …medium=text&ref=title_0_1 (external link)

24.3 MP APS_C
12 FPS (60jpg/26raw burst)
79 Focus Points (15 cross type)
ISO 100-26,500 (51,200 high)
1/8000 max shutter
$1,200 MSRP

I'm very very close to buying a Sony A99 and when I saw your price of $1200! I them clicked on the link

Woops, good call, but I think a mod has to change it.

it would be cool if the SLT can remove the translucent mirror.... that's pretty much a dealbreaker having to deal with the light loss.

Then you have mirrorless camera, aka NEX series, or a7

I mean there should be a mirror lockup mode if the user chooses not to deal with the silly translucent mirror.

that mirror is how the focus system works, just like a DSLR, except that it stays fixed instead of flipping up during exposure.

they could use contrast detect or on sensor phase... but then there would be no point to have a mirror at all... therefore why you need larger body...

I don't know why you think it's silly, the light loss is so small I couldn't see a difference between a photo taken with a Canon and Sony on the same settings and of the same object, plus the advantages of it being there gave me options that just aren't possible in any other DSLR.

The only time you'd notice it is in very high ISO shots, then you'd probably notice the 1/3 stop difference.

And for the moment, a dedicated focus sensor system is still faster and more accurate for tracking than even the on sensor phase detect that the E-M1 uses.
