Poland looks less Polish and more American than I expected (Lotto!). As always, though, your photos show great polish.

thanks OhLook. I'm in a strange state recently, I have to rethink some things. I'm finding it harder and harder to judge my own work.

big cities look western I would say, this trip was to the small ones. my brother's neighborhood in Warsaw looks like London's Canary Wharf (not many photos from there though, not enough time).

I'm surprised and sorry to hear that.

Some in this batch don't have the characteristic air of your usual contributions to the Candids and Fragments threads. They're more conventional. (Maybe you just wanted to show us Poland?) What's missing is the strangeness, the sense of something being a little off or a little out of place. The one that works best for me artistically, that makes me keep looking, is the Lotto sign, and its success is due to the yellow doorway. Without that doorway, it'd be simply a picture of a sign. But the doorway doesn't make the picture by itself, either. The doorway needs the sign. Placement of objects within the frame is very good there.

I agree with your judgement here. I'm back in London now, hoping the get back on track ;)

I personally really like the first one - there's an eeriness to it, it looks like an early-morning scene, I imagine absolutely nobody is around. Weird thing is it could be London, too.

In the fourth one, the verticals work for me, and the diagonal lines that each set of verticals corresponds to lead you through the image nicely. I also like the third one for a split composition of more natural and leafy greens contrasted with concrete and vans.

The sign one also works, definitely on account of the colours.

Hope you're feeling more yourself soon, and keep on with your excellent work!

thanks for your support Owain, I know I just need to shut up and get to work harder.
and your right, it could be London, heh, some bits of both countries are very similar, others told me that as well.

Producing new work is one way find your way - but evaluating it is necessary to see what you're producing and why, what's working from that and why. Certainly haven't got it figured out myself though, and have a tendency to over-think and under-produce ... it's certainly difficult to magic a direction and body of work out of the air without going out and shooting it.

I think some bits of many countries are similar, these days. Could easily be most British cities I've lived in. Although Spain has a slightly different colour palette ...

spot on with the 'more work to solve problems'. I will probably do that. I think I'm begging to see a new approach, slowly ( https://photography-on-the.net …p=16880788&postcount=3317 ). funny thing is, its more a process of analysing what you've just done, and figuring out where that's heading more then 'righ, now I'm goint to do this', at least for me it is.

Exactly. Shoot a bit, look at it, see what's working, shoot a bit more along those lines and see where that takes you.

My biggest problem is motivating myself to shoot anyway, when I don't have something in mind to shoot - because shooting something often gives you an idea for things to shoot. Again, just have to get out and do it (talking to myself here rather than to you, you seem much more resolute anyway!) ...

I'm about to head out, but I'll try to give that post some time later.

The change in order, as well as the text, help the set as a whole, I feel.
