Hey everyone, I have a question regarding Canon CPS. Right now, I own a 1DX and no other body, so I can't register for CPS. I'm considering picking up a 7D as a backup in the near future. Most likely, I'll be purchasing a used one. Will I have any problems becoming a CPS member if I buy a used 7D? What if the previous owner registered it in the past? Also, living in Canada, would there be any problems buying a used Amercan 7D and registering it here?

Cheers :)

I did the same thing about 15 months ago. I had a 5DMkIII and 7D and already belonged to CPS at Gold level.
I sold the 7D, bought a used 1DMk3 from a POTN member in the USA, and then registered it with CPS. Just make sure the original owner removes the used unit from his Canon or CPS listing before he sells it to you, or you will NOT be able to add it to your list.
I presume you know that 2 bodies alone will not qualify you for CPS Gold level in Canada; you need at least 2 L lenses in addition. Also, the 7D only qualifies for the CPS Gold plan; if you want to go Platinum, it doesn't count.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just the answer I was looking for! :) I own multiple L lenses, so Gold level won't be a problem. I see you have to be a "professional" for Platinum. I'm no pro, so that seems to be out of the question. Curious though, what kind of proof do you need to be considered pro?

Not certain, but in the past I believe you had to show copies of quotes, invoices, business credentials (business cards, forms). That would not be a problem for me, but the second requirement, that your income be "substantially" derived from this employment/business, has always stopped me from applying, as I never have known what "substantial" means ...

In the States, my cousin simply just said he was a professional and that's all it took. It was his opinion all that mattered was that he was willing to pay the increased fee.

I think in Canada it currently reads that you have to be a "working professional" ...
