Any owners of Sandisk Extreme 32gb 120mb/s CF card? Possible Counterfeit

Hi!

I purchased a new CF card (as mentioned in title) from Amazon. Not my first choice as trustworthy seller but there were none available locally and Amazon had the fastest and least expensive shipping (I needed for tomorrow). It came in today, in the "frustration free packaging" which was basically a Sandisk cardboard envelope. Red flags went off that one corner of the envelope was completely torn off.

I've verified that the batch/serial number is genuine Sandisk, but that doesn't mean the frauds haven't used a genuine number. The aspects of the card look right except for one small detail-to me it looks like there is print overlap on the "Sandisk" at the bottom right of the card that there shouldn't be. It isn't so visible in outdoor light but is really noticeable when light is reflecting off of the card. Does anyone have a legit card they could compare and tell me if this writing overlap is normal for this card or if it is likely I have a fake? If this isn't a legitimate Sandisk card I want to return and order from a more trustworthy source.

To clarify, it isn't visible in the first photo-but in the second two, the hazing at the edges of the "Sandisk"

I can't see what you are looking at. FWIW, I trust Amazon more than anyone else.

I did just get another SanDisk product from Big A and it also came in a cardboard envelop. No problems.

You might trust Amazon, but I think the point here was that he didn't buy from Amazon but through Amazon.

I did buy from Amazon. However, some of the reviews mention counterfeits being sold through Amazon.

This is what I think looks odd-the overlap area around the Sandisk.

fwiw I've got a sandisk extreme sd card in front of me and if I shine a light on the sandisk logo like shown I do see a outline around the letters. It's almost like the sandisk letters are outlined in maybe a slightly darker red with what looks like a metallic shimmer.
That said, this card was also purchased from Amazon around 4 months ago, I've never worried about it and it has always functioned as its supposed to.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. It may just be the newer style of card, but my other SD cards (purchased direct) don't have anything looking like that. It seems to work so far.

I have read, but never verified for myself, that a card inserted into a PCMCIA adapter will report the true manufacturer's name when you do the safe removal routine in Windows. This is not the case when used with a USB adapter apparently.
There are also hardware test programs that will verify the true capacity of the card which is usually faked on counterfeit cards.

who gives a rat crap how much gear you can list?

I have that exact same card purchased from Adorama last year. Mine looks the same, the "Sandisk" writing has a darker border, almost like a shadow. So I don't really see an issue with your card. Plus, I would trust Amazon as much as any other seller if the card was sold and shipped by amazon.com (and not a marketplace seller).

I have contacted Amazon in the past about a counterfeit battery grip I received from a Hong Kong seller. Amazon refunded all my money because the seller had done that to a lot of people and lost their seller status.
