Previous B&A #517

The game will last 1 week and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions at any time. This is a good competition for learning new methods, so let's make it a bit more dynamic. I will be judging edits, not comments. Feel free to comment on the original image as well.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #518".

Submissions end, Friday, May 9, 2014 at Noon (EST) and a winner will be announced.

Scary bird thing creature something! :D

IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/BA_518_ScaryCreatureBird.jpg

Selected half the image, flipped and moved together.
Masked a little bit above and below the bird so not all of the background would be mirrored.
Copied the bill about 10 times, moved them around to different spots trying to be a little creative.
Added this feather wing thing I created a long time ago, duplicated, flipped, placed one on each side.
Ran a Liquify filter on the eyes to increase size and tweek a bit.

Morning guys!

Made some small adjustments in Camera Raw before opening in Photoshop,
Cropped the image,
Used the Clone Stamp tool to get rid of some spots and blemishes in the feathers,
Dodged and Burned the feathers and the face using Overlay and Soft Light layers and the Blend If option,
Used Select Colour Range to cool and darken everything but yellow the tones,
Added a subtle Iris Blur around the bird,
Added Vignetting using the Gradient Tool and Curves Adjustment Layers,
Slightly adjusted the overall colour with a Levels Adjustment Layer,
Slightly sharpened the bird's face and torso using a High Pass layer set to Linear Light.

Thanks and good luck! :)

Thanks for the submissions, folks! I know it wasn't a very inspired choice of image for you to work with, and for that I apologize.

I think that this week, I am going to select Jack McEntire as the winner, and the person who must post the next challenge!

Nice edits guys! Too bad we didn't have some more entries though. But it happens from time to time.
Nothing wrong with your choice of entry Vetteography. I have the same hard time picking something to post as well. The cool thing about it is that everyone has something different and unique to share! And, you just never know what the crowd will do with it!

Congrats Jack for the win!

Thanks! I'll dig out an old photo for the next competition tomorrow, if I can figure out how to share a .CR2 file!

That is, unless anyone else would prefer to take over instead (which I'd prefer, in all honesty)! :)
