HSS with Fuji X-T1

Hello,

I am making a switch from Canon to Fuji for the X-T1. I am curious if there is a way to use higher sync speed or preferably HSS with small flashes? I currently have 600-EX-RT flashes but I will off them if they can't do some kind of higher speed syncing with the Fuji. I am wondering if Godox, Yongnuo, etc offers a solution for this?

Thank you kindly. Charles

Charles,
I also have X system gear, as well as Canon.
Except for the Fuji ETTL speedlite, which has limited capabilities there are no other options readily available.

Lots of manual options but no real ETTL options that I've found.

HyperSync may be available but even that usually requires a trigger on the camera that can deliver the FP sync signal. Which Fuji can not deliver to non-Fuji flash units.

Thanks!

What are the issues with Fuji's ETTL?
Is there a way to do ETTL off camera with Fuji's flashes?

With a Fuji TTL flash and a Canon ETTL cord, I believe you can.

That's awesome! If it does ETTL does that mean it will do HSS as well with a cord?

Not that I'm aware of as HSS is a Canon feature.

Alternatively, can anyone suggest a flash and radio that this long burn or "hypersync" style of HSS might work well enough for the Fuji?

Charles,
The key to HyperSync, is getting the camera to send an FP sync signal. That requires a trigger that will recognize the signal from the control pad on the camera. To my knowledge that would require a Fuji specific trigger.

I have a battery powered strobe coming for some testing.
It uses voltage control for power management so it will work in a HyperSync situation.
I am planning to test it with my X system cameras to see how it works doing HyperSync.

I have just purchased the Fuji Xt1 and I think I will also purchase a Cactus RF60.

It has HSS Sympathy mode.

The HSS Sympathy mode of the RF60 is designed to support flash photography at shutter speeds beyond a camera’s maximum sync speed. With the help of a TTL flash mounted on camera, RF60 fire flashes with an extended duration in order to produce even frame illumination at shutter speeds as high as 1/8000 second.

The included EF-X8 Flash that comes with the XT1 is I believe a TTL flash, so you could use this on camera to fire the RF60.

Hope this helps...
