AF menu case number? I would suggest maybe case 6 as soccer players move quite erratically at times and can suddenly stop and change direction. But I might play with individual parameters myself. I would certainly turn down the tracking sensitivity a little, if using case 6. AI servo 1st and 2nd image priority? I would go with it cranked right over to focus on both, as I am only interested in sharp shots. If shooting for the press I would go the other way, as newsprint doesn't demand ultimate sharpness but capturing the best moment is key. Picture style? Well, I would be in neutral, to keep my histogram accurate, but I don't shoot jpeg. Which you choose depends on how you want your image processed, and that is down to individual taste. Personally, I do my processing later, rather than let the camera do it. Aperture ? Depends on what you want from each shot. Typically, I would go f/2.8 to keep the background out of focus, but for some shots I might want more DOF and shoot accordingly. Metering mode? Depends on conditions, personal taste and what mode you are shooting in. I would tend to take a reading from the grass and base my (manual) settings on that. If shooting a semi-auto mode then maybe EV mode and watch out for white shirts etc. which may require some EC. AF area selection? Single point, selected according to where in the frame my subject will be. Or anything else I forgot?? Thanks...! These are just suggestions though, there are no "best" settings, just settings which suit the conditions at the time and will give you the result you are after. The whole art of photography is previsualising how you want an image to look, and using settings to give you that look. You may want a different style of result to me, or the next person to answer.

I will generally change most of those above as the shoot progresses as I go for different shots, and want a specific look to the shot that is different to the ones before. I do that anyway, but it's nice to have a starting point.. EOS 5Dmk3 X2, 60D, EF24-70mm f2.8L mk2, EF70-200mm f2.8L IS mk2, EF85mm f1.8, EF50mm f1.4, EF50mm f1.8 mk1(350D with 18-55mm Sh"kit" lens).
