Hey, guys. I've been searching all over the internet for an answer, and I hope one of you knows. Is there an android app that lets you connect your camera (5dII in my case) to a tablet and just use the tablet for image preview and not full camera control?

I've looked at DSLR Controller, but it disables the camera controls and you have to use the tablet. I just want to use the tablet as a bigger lcd screen while I shoot with the camera in my hand. EOS Utility allows you to do that, but only on a PC. Camranger has a "Client Mode" which does what I want, but you have to buy their hardware as well as install the app.

Is there a free (or cheap) app that will act like EOS Utility for an Android tablet? I plan to use this at a wedding to let guests come up, have their picture taken and instantly see if they like it on the tablet.

Thanks, Chuck. But will it let me shoot using the controls on the camera, and not on the tablet? The reviews I read said that it won't, but they may have updated the app to allow this. So please let me know.

The only thing it doesn't let me use on the 40d camera is the auto focus . It free to use so give it a try!
Sorry - just double checked I can use auto focus but not via the tablet.

Well, thanks again. It's not exactly free, but it's only $8. As long as I can use all the controls and take the pictures with the camera, I'll spend the $8.

Just a heads up that if it doesn't work out the way you want it, you can manually request a refund from the developer, he's aware that the 15 minute refund window for Google's store isn't ideal for this kind of application:

http://dslrcontroller.com/faq.php (external link)

I did a little testing and here's what I found:
When you plug the camera in, it activates liveview mode. If you press the "M" button in the top left, it turns off liveview mode and lets you control the camera via its own controls. If you click on the bottom left button (shaped like a play symbol), it accesses the photos in your SD card's gallery and lets you view them on the tablet. I just tried taking pictures while in this gallery mode and it updates automatically when a new picture is taken. Is this what you were looking to hear?

edit 2: This is with a rebel t1i/500D.

Pwk:

That is exactly what I wanted to hear!!! I think I found the same video you did. It was from "Fotography" on Youtube. He explained nicely how you can use the tablet as a field monitor. It looks like I'm spending the 8 bucks.
