Which goes on first?

If I'm going to use a CP and a solid (6-stop) ND filter at the same time, should I put the ND on first so I can adjust the CP to accommodate the scene? That seems to make the most sense to me, but somewhere I read a person complaining that you had to adjust your CP first, make note of the position, before screwing on your ND filter.

I don't have either filter yet, so I have no experience with either.

A solid (not graduated) ND is non-directional; it shouldn't matter which order you put them on as far as your camera and lens are concerned. You, however, might find it easier to adjust the CPL with the ND off, note the orientation, and then attach the ND and re-check the CPL orientation. With 6 stops of ND + 1-2 stops from a CPL you won't be seeing a whole lot except maybe via Live View, when you try to adjust the CPL with both on.

This is EXACTLY what has worked well fro me. I enjoy waterfalls, and the two filters together give me the look I prefer. The "work-flow" Jon describes is really not time consuming and you can see what you are setting up.
