Somewhat of a surprise visitor to my backyard today in the form of this Cooper's hawk doing it's best impression of a juvenile Red-shouldered hawk . I didn't think the season had progressed far enough as I've not seen any other young birds, but every indication I got was this one is fairly recently fledged.

Hope you've enjoyed these and feel comfortable enough to share your thoughts.
My apologies both to Red-shouldered hawks in general, and to those who will now misidentify Red-shouldered hawks as Cooper's hawks. Many thanks to mileslong24 and Steve for correcting my ID error :o

#4 is my favorite. I had one of these in a tree in my yard recently. I got some shots, but unfortunately he was behind some limbs, so not a nice as your set here. Very good work.

Great job! I have one of them that perches about 30ft. above me in a backyard tree. I have only once caught him when I had my camera.

He was on my back wall, feasting on what looked like a chicken stolen from someones grill.:D

I nervously grabbed my camera and shot through some bushes and really botched the shot.

Now I just look in awe at shots like yours.

Great stuff Steve, nice to get a young one like that, posing for you. You have good fortune with your hawks!

Great shots. I don't think that's a juvi coopers though. Tail is usually longer and eyes are yellow. I'm guessing juvi red shouldered.
