Out of curiosity, why such a long lens?

Often times using a long lens is most flattering, especially when shooting women and their shallow depth of field produce great separation from the background. My go-to lens for outdoor portraiture, when I have the room to work, is my 180mm f/2.8 ED AIS Nikkor but I have used my 300mm f/2.8 ED-IF AIS Nikkor upon occasion as well. Both are amazingly sharp, blur the background beautifully and provide very flattering perspective.
