Hi,
i just got my Elinchrom Deep Octa 100cm the bigger one. Using it for my Quadra.

Regarding the diffuser, i like to know how people are actually using it to get the best results;

1. do you remove the diffuser cap that came with the flash head? I think i will remove that.

2. the Elinchrom deep octal comes with two cloth-like diffuser, one clip onto the centre, the other velco to the outset rim of the soft box, do you have them both at the same time?

3. it also came with a Translucide deflector set (no.1). do you use it too?

I am still waiting for the reflector adaptor to arrive.

perhaps any photos of the inside of your deep octa will helps.

thank you

For indoor, studio shoots, I use a reflective deflector and both inner and outer diffusers. Although I've swapped the translucent deflector with the reflective one in this configuration and didn't really notice any difference. When shooting outdoors, I sometimes don't want to limit the power by using both diffusers, but it also depends on the wind. I'll use the front diffuser if it's particularly windy. If it's not, I might shoot with just the inner diffuser. I always use a deflector...and have shot with just the deflector and no diffusers for more of a beauty dish type of look. I don't even have diffuser caps for my flash heads and have never used them (except for the Profoto B1). There are lots of combinations to try. I'd suggest that it's time to play around and see what suits your tastes.

I have been shooting with a borrowed one for a bit using it with the RX 4.

For studio, I usually use both inner and outer, and sometimes I'm using the hooded if I want a bit less light in all directions.

Outdoor I'm only using the outer or hooded, but without the inner one.

I've been using the big and small Deep Octas with the Profoto Acute/D4 heads.... like sdipirro, I always use the plastic Elinchrom deflector, but not the inner and outer cloth diffusers. Quick and easy to setup on location.

Mix it up. Depends on the power you need. You can't use with the quadras reflector. You need to use the Quadra to EL converter to use any EL fit modifiers.

THe deflector I use most of the time unless I need every ounce of power
