Fred Carlo, one of Portland's first artisanal sausage makers (seen here at the Saturday Portland Farmers Market at Portland State University in 2015) passed away recently. He had a great influence on the Portland food scene from the late '80s onward and some of his clients included Alice Waters of Chez Panisse in Berkeley and other notable chefs). He was 72.

working to pick up all of the teddy bears after the Teddy Bear Toss. after the first home goal, teddy bears are thrown on the ice. they are collected and given to the local hospitals, police and fire departments and EMTs to help sooth children who are victims of tragic events. car accidents, house fires, other issues requiring emergency attention. they got about 520 teddy bears this year
