Why do they call them 'purple finch' when they seem to be so red? ;)

Very pretty. I think I spotted a House Finch the other day. Haven't seen it again since, so it was probably a Purple Finch. Who ever named them must have been color blind!

These birds are so pretty and there colors are so vibrant in the spring and summer. Nice set!

They sure are pretty Sandy, incredible how brilliant the males are... & the females, not so much.. I think 'red' is the new 'purple' ;)

Thank you Bret! You could be right, I looked at the House & Purple in my book & noted the deeper 'V' in the tail, so assumed it was a purple finch...
