Best way to approach a factory repair?

My 5D's mirror has become dislodged. Unless someone can tell me how to glue that back in place, I'll assume I need to send it in for a repair. What is the best way to go about this?

I bought the camera back in 2007(?) from B&H. There are several camera stores in the area that I would trust to get it done right, but I'm not sure I would trust them to give me a fair price. I fear they will just pad on 50% to 100% of the repair cost.

There was a recall on the original 5D for this problem and they'll fix it free.

You need to start the repair by sending a request through the canon usa website. They lay it out for you. Unless something has changed they still do the mirror repair for free. Although in recent years there have been reports that they will try add additional services to the process.

With their coverage for this they'll actually give you a pre-paid shipping label. Like was said, just make sure you work with the service people to set things up.

They do "say" that they cleaned the sensor as a "freebie", but I found that the sensor was dirtier than it was when I sent it in, so you might want to clean it as a "first out-of-box" action...
