I just got my new Tamron 70-200 f2.8 Di VC USD lens in the mail, super excited! Decided to test it out against my only other previous telephoto, an old Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO Macro that squeaks when it focuses!
This is certainly far from scientific, and results should be taken with a grain of salt. I just did this for my own satisfaction, but figured I would share the results.
All photos taken at ISO 400, f5.6, 1/320, on a 7d.
In all sets, the 70-300 is first, and the new 70-200 is second.
In this first set, which is the full image, it is not immediately noticeable which was shot with the $250 lens, and which with the $1500 lens.

Even looking at the center of the frame, it is tough to see a whole lot of difference, but the Tamron has slightly better detail and contrast.

Once you start looking more towards the edge of the frame, the Tamron really starts to pull away!

Especially toward the lower right corner, the Tamron smokes "Ol' Squeaky"
