I noticed today that the rubber mount (for weather sealing) on my 70-200 has a chip in it. Was planning on sending it in for repair until I got an estimate of $316 from Canon Canada (worst service ever btw.) My warranty expired only 10 days ago too :mad:. So, I'm considering doing the repair myself; it seems easy enough. Has anyone else done this? Where can I order the part? Cheers

Will it not cause problems with the weather sealing?

I really can't believe the estimate is $316 to replace a bloody little piece of rubber.

It is. Running a 1DX.

Super Glue?

The piece is broken off; long gone.

Do it yourself...

If you can find someone to mail it to you via USPS, and you pay the $23 to ship it to them, and the extra little to ship it to you after that, it shouldn't cost more than $30 USD when you were done. Or perhaps the site would ship to Canada for an extra fee, but you may have to contact them.

That part costs like 50 cents and takes 2 minutes to install. CPS has replaced several for me at no cost during there event checks.

I know! That's exactly why it's so frustrating. I emailed Canon Canada asking if the estimate of $316 is correct. Sure enough, it is. It is their "flat repair charge." And to rub salt in the wound, my warranty expired like ~10 days ago. Ugh.

Good news though, the link TeamSpeed provided will ship to Canada. Looks like I'll do it myself. Should be quite easy.

To be fair, that mount replacement wouldn't be covered under warranty since it's a normal wear and tear item.

Just remove 4 screws and snap it in place.

Okay, so I went ahead and ordered the part. Planning on installing it myself. Is it really as easy as just removing the 4 screws and snapping it in place? Can I run into any sort of problems?

Anyone actually attempted this themselves?

Can you change your car's oil?

Possible issues:
1. Stripped screws.
2. Broken electrical ribbon.

Just be firm but gentle and you'll be fine.

Taking off the lens mount is easy, especially since you won't actually have to detach the mount from the electronic contact plate.
