Hi everyone, I hate for this to be my first post but I am in abit of a bind. I am bidding on a sigma ef-430 flash unit. i intend to use it with my canon 20d but I'm not sure if they are compatible. The seller has assured me that they are but I cannot find anything online to indicate eitherway and I have a feeling that he is just saying that to shift the gear!

Please respond if you have any ideas as I cannot afford to buy a flash I cannot use and particularly if this bloke is lying.

thanks for the help

Sarah.

Not being familiar with this flash or what you consider a definition of compatable, I have to say that I use Canon 580 flashes with my 20D and still keep my Nikon SB28. Even though the Nikon flash works, I would call that compatable, but it only works manually.

My guess is that this Sigma flash would need some sort of interface adapter to connect to the 20D and take advantage of all the TTL capabilities. I'm sure it will work, but will it work how you are expecting it to work.

Clarify your expectations and I'm sure someone has tried it and can answer your questions.

The only flash guns made by sigma that will work with canons line of digital SLR's are the 500DG and the 500DG super. dont buy that flash if its not one of those.

Plus I have never herd of the sigma EF 430

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Sarah, I don't know if the "ef-430" is a typo or not. The only Canon flash units that work with the 20D are the EX series. The EX-430 is a current production flash unit that works fine with any of today's EOS camera bodies.

After doing a little searching on Google, I am thinking that maybe the EF-430 you are talking about is a Sigma unit. If that's the one, then I would avoid getting it if I were you. While it can tilt up, it cannot rotate. The ability to tilt and rotate can be extremely useful in many situations - to bounce the light off a nearby surface such as a white wall, ceiling, or a reflector that you put into the situation.

hi, thanks for your responses. by compatable i meant utilising TTL capabilities of the flash, not just working manually. and yes, it is a sigma unit as i said.
