photo ideas for a 1st birthday

hi everyone

a good friend of mine asked me to take pics of her little one's 1st birthday party. the event will be at a restaurant, in the open patio area, so i think the lighting should be ok.

i am hoping there is a nice wall section that i can use as a natural backdrop for friends/family/group shots

but where i am struggling is coming up with some ideas for pics of the baby, and the parents. i tried to look around on flikr, and most of the results were either the cake, or a cake smash. i dont know if they will want to do a cake smash picture.

what other photo ideas can you guys and gals suggest? i read something somewhere about an iphone app that has posing suggestions - anyone know the name?

hopefully I am not to late on this, but a rocking horse, a tonka truck (like the large ones they can sit in), balloons, pics with their fav toy, but honestly, I get alot of pics of them alone, by themselves, exporing their surroundings.
